Unite ask AXAI CEO for help over ex-Guardian Staff PMI rate increase
Members of the ex-Guardian staff Private Medical Insurance scheme will have today received notice from the company of the increase in their contribution. This is a direct result of the premium rise imposed by PPP healthcare. Unite are disappointed by the level of increase and the short notice members have received, but have accepted the response from AXA Insurance management. This explained that the increase in premium is down to a deteriorating claims experience and the fact that the number of members in this closed scheme is now less than half it was when it was set up.
We have written to Peter Hubbard with our concerns over this most recent increase and the seemingly inevitable future impact that will result as the common pool reduces due to falling membership.
Management have advised that they are looking into a number of alternatives that will help mitigate future impact and widen exposure so that claims impact will be minimised in future.
Clearly this year's large increase in contribution will be unpalatable to some members of the scheme, but we still feel that the benefit substantially outweighs the cost and would recommend members remain in the scheme whilst we attempt to devise a way forward that will prevent this happening again.
