AXA close 5 offices and sack 200
AXA Insurance today announced the closure of its five branches commercial branches in Cardiff, Carlisle, Maidstone, Sheffield and Southampton. Additionally it announced various changes to the way Commercial Distribution will operate in the UK, changing processes, stopping some and offshoring some work to ABS. In total this will see approximately 200 staff made redundant nationwide.
The Union has been involved in protracted consultation with Commercial management over their plans, the business case behind them and has repeatedly challenged the headcount assumptions for the redundancies as well as the business going forward.
Whilst the union accepts that the business does need to make changes to reflect the changes in the market over the last five years, and that if the brokers will not process the work on the AXA Business Risk system then ABS is the logical lowest cost alternative, we are still robustly challenging the proposed business model and especially the numbers of staff AXA are suggesting they can use to run the business successfully.
We are very disappointed at the numbers of potential compulsory redundancies and have agreed with the company the implementation of a Voluntary Redundancy register in the sites remaining open, to create job vacancies in those sites being downsized or for staff in sites that are closing.
