AXA railroad through expenses changes
Unite are unhappy with the poor level of negotiation and sign off concerning the recent changes introduced to the travel and expenses policy. The company has instigated a number of changes that the union are not satisfied with and had not agreed to.
Whilst we appreciate the need for expenses management, the company attitude towards a number of existing low cost benefits, such as lunch allowance, was nothing less than stingy in the extreme. Under the new policy an employee can leave home at 6.00am on
company business, get back home at 8.59pm and AXA won't even let them buy a cup of coffee on expensesÉ The company response was that staff would have to buy lunch anyway, but as one manager, as unequally unimpressed with this argument as we were, put it to us, "staff have to go to the loo, we don't expect them to provide the toilet paper".
Unite will continue to press for a more reasonable approach through the correct consultative channels.
