AXA Life announce cost cutting and redundancies

As part of the communication of the half year company results, AXA Life has today announced plans to reduce costs by between £100M and £120M by 2012. The initial estimate is that this will mean between 300 and 350 job losses, mostly taking place over 2009 and 2010.

Unite are in the early stages of consultation with AXA about these proposals and are currently awaiting full details.

Although Unite understand that AXA Life is concerned about it's cost base and level of profitability, this must not be used as an excuse for the short term reduction of jobs. Unite will scrutinise and robustly challenge these plans as appropriate and will work with AXA Life to ensure that every effort is made to minimise any compulsory redundancies.
